Since 2015 I have been creating works of abstract art using remnants of luxury soft furnishing textiles and employing various techniques - such as weaving and layering - as well as incorporating needle and crochet knitted elements to add varied textures to the pieces.
Born in France in 1951, currently living in London, I have been passionate about textiles since childhood; at 12 years old my ambition was to become a fashion designer. At the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Nantes, I experimented with weaving various materials such as hemp, ribbons cut from fabrics, 8 mm film and painted cardboard tubes.
I worked for 40 years as an artisan, advising clients in color schemes, designing and creating soft furnishings for apartments, houses and yachts in France, Spain and Great Britain where I have been based since 1988; I also designed and sewn numerous stage costumes for La Sylvaine Ballet School shows in theaters such as the Britten Theater and the Bloomsbury theater.
I design and manufacture panels in which textiles fibers, different in texture, color and material, intertwine with each other, creating an abstract and geometric lattice, playing on contrasts, passing from the sheen of silk to the rough texture of cotton yarn crochet knitting, from the two-dimentionality of fabrics to the three-dimentionality of padded tubes making the panels a hybrid halfway between patchwork and plasticism.
"Through her structural design, Marie-Ghislaine Beaucé creates and examines a large mysterious space, far from reality, which can only be represented through abstraction and marked by the slow succession of layers of fabrics". Vincenza Ursillo, Art curator, Milan Italy.
"Highly inspired by nature and its chromatic hues, Marie-Ghislaine's abstract woven tapestries interlace the luminosity of the natural environment. Spiritually integrating her unique artistic vision into the textile medium, the gifted artist embraces fabrics and colors, fusing them into jewels of gem-like expressions. Translating the abstracted realms of emotion and feeling, she recontextualizes them into an intriguing artistic blend of interpretive, non-objectified vision."
